We have just built, configured, and launched our brand new server, which is now live. We’re very pleased with the new speed of our site and we hope you are too.

We’ve just released an update to “Outlook MSG Viewer”, which contains a few enhancements over the previous version.

For simplicity and speed, users have requested the ability to view attachments as inline. Here’s what we’ve done to address those requests.

First, we added the ability to view attachments as inline. This means if you have multiple, nested messages, they will all be displayed in a single message. It’s not as pretty as the original version, but it shows you the information you need faster.

Secondly, we added the ability to view the RTF attachments as inline HTML. The RTF file is actually the way that Microsoft intended that file to look since the original .msg file is stored in more of a Microsoft Word format. However, we have added the ability to perform RTF to HTML conversion. Keep in mind that with this option (disabled by default), some of the original formatting will be lost. Feel free to test this out.

Finally, for users performing batch conversions, we added the simple option to enable file naming to be .msg.eml (default) or simply .eml.

In rare cases, it seems that .msg files can actually be .eml files in disguise. This new version takes out the guesswork process for you, and correctly shows the attachment in .eml format.

For those with a large library of .msg files, and power users, we have also added a feature to bulk process .msg files. This can be accomplished using drag-and-drop; simply drag all of the individual .msg files onto the Outlook MSG Viewer application, and it will convert all of them to .eml files.

Keep your eyes peeled for the release of MBOX Breaker for the Mac platform this summer.

Buying a domain name these days costs about the same price as a decent glass of wine. It’s so incredibly cheap to create a professional image for yourself in 2010, so why are you still using your @yahoo.com or @gmail.com email address to communicate with your clients? What exactly is an image sprite? Have a look above to see an example from our left-menu navigation! A sprite is just an image composite from multiple images, designed to speed up the user experience on a website. Amazon, Google, and other top-tier websites use image sprites. It’s completely invisible to you, but you’ll appreciate how snappy the page loads are as a result.

Since very few of us use dial-up internet connections any more, you may be wondering why some web pages load slower than others. You may not realize that every web page you visit can require hundreds of files before rendering properly. Accessing the New York Times for instance actually requires 111 files!

Your internet connection may be fast, but loading 111 individual files means 111 separate requests to the web server, and 111 separate transactions. Typically, you’ll just experience this as a few second delay, but it could be longer. Image sprites cut down on the quantity of these separate transactions by merging images into a composite image. For example, for the navigation image sprite example above, those 24 separate images are now a single request.

Creating image sprites, and also updating / maintaining them, can be a bit of a hassle. And, it used to required a separate image editor. Fortunately, some talented developers created a website called SpriteMe, and decided to take some of the leg work out of it. Give it a try! You can use their Javascript to evaluate any page you want, and it will generate the CSS and image sprite for you.
